Originally a Hindu deity, an emanation of Shiva. In the vajrayana, Rudra is the personification of ultimate ego, the opposite of buddhahood. Rudra’s corpse (confused ego) is scattered on the charnel ground, from which mahakala (enlightened energy) arises.
