- ལ་
- A highly significant particle in Tibetan largely used to mark location (i.e., it comes after a place) or possession (i.e. it comes after the possessor who has something). Traditionally classified as one of the seven ལ་དོན་ particles, all of which are important.
- When used to show location, the most important point is to know that ལ་ comes directly after the place and the subject can come before or after that. Generally, you can use the basic prepositions to translate ལ་ such as “at”, “in”, “on”, “to”, “for”, etc.
- When used to show possession, again the most important point is to know that ལ་ comes directly after the possessor, and the object possessed can come before or after that. In this case, you wouldn’t need to translate ལ into English, just recognizing its function and translating the verb as “to have” will suffice.
