- Show various kinds of connections/relationships between nouns, adjectives, and pronouns. You can often think of it as “belonging to”, “possession”, or “being including in” something.
- All have the same meaning/function, vary depending on spelling of word they follow (don’t worry about this)
Main Functions
”Of”
- Sometimes other prepositions in English may be more appropriate, but “of” is the best place to start. In that case, you’d translate the word order backwards from the Tibetan.
Possessive Pronouns
- When there are personal pronouns (or persons’ names) followed by a connective particle, then they can generally be translated as possessives. In that case, the word order will be similar to English.
Adjectival/Descriptive
- If the first two won’t make sense, try this one.
- When there is an adjective or a noun preceding the main noun w/ a connective particle, then it’s often describing the main noun or acting as an adjective for it. I.e. describing what kind of person, place, or thing it is.
